Ingredient Breakdown:
Whole Grain Oat Flour
Whole grain oat flour is the primary carbohydrate source in home made because when it comes to high-quality carbohydrates, it’s hard to beat good old-fashioned oats. Oats are classified as low-glycemic carbohydrates, which means they take longer to digest and don’t rapidly spike insulin levels.
Oats contain high amounts of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. But what makes oats stand out is their beta-glucan and avenanthramide content. Beta-glucans are polysaccharides that are attributed to oat’s cholesterol-lowering properties.
Avenanthramides are a group of phenolic alkaloids that are anti-inflammatory. They also increase the production of nitric oxide in blood vessels, resulting in vasodilation (expansion). This effect is beneficial for both cardiovascular health and physical performance.
Home Made Protein Recipe
Home made uses a blend of six different protein sources that range from fast to slow digesting. Our home made protein recipe provides you with a steady stream of amino acids that keep your muscles fueled for hours.
Every protein source in home made has its own unique benefits, so let’s briefly cover each one:
Whey Protein Isolate
The primary protein source in home made is whey protein isolate (wpi). Whey protein isolate is fast digesting and considered to be the purest protein on the market since it contains at least 90% protein by weight. Whey protein isolate is very low in lactose, carbohydrates, and fats, yet rich in essential amino acids and branched-chain amino acids. Whey protein isolate is a byproduct of cheese production and is naturally found in various dairy products.
Whey Protein Concentrate
The next protein source in home made is whey protein concentrate wpc, which is very similar to wpi. Whey protein concentrate is also a byproduct of cheese production and is naturally found in dairy. Whey protein concentrate is still considered to be a fast-digesting protein, however, it’s slightly slower than wpi. Although wpc contains higher amounts of fats, carbohydrates, and lactose, it’s still rich in protein, essential amino acids, and branched-chain amino acids.
Brown Rice Protein
Instead of just using animal-based protein, home made also includes high-quality plant protein sources. Brown rice protein is slower-digesting than both wpi and wpc. But it’s still considered to be an excellent protein source since it contains high amounts of essential amino acids and branched-chain amino acids compared to other plant protein sources. Brown rice protein is easy to digest, hypoallergenic, and contains nutrients that provide various health benefits.
Egg white powder
Since egg white powder doesn’t contain the yolk, you get all protein without the fat. According to the protein digestibility corrected amino acid score, egg whites are an excellent protein source. Moreover, egg whites are considered to be a medium-digesting protein because it takes anywhere from 3 to 3.5 hours to digest. So combining egg white powder with whey protein will help suppress your appetite and keep you in an anabolic state since the digestion rates vary.
Beef Protein
Beef protein is a high-quality protein source that’s particularly rice in two amino acids — glycine and proline. Both glycine and proline are essential components of collagen, which is the main protein that makes up your connective tissue. Beef protein will likely promote joint, skin, hair, and nail health to a greater extent than the other protein sources in home made. Let’s face it, your muscles aren’t the only thing that’s getting beat up in the gym. So having an ingredient that promotes joint health, like beef protein, may help you recover even better.
Pea Protein
The last protein source in home made is pea protein, another high-quality plant protein. Pea protein is one of the few plant protein sources that is classified as complete. This means that it contains adequate amounts of all nine essential amino acids. Similar to brown rice, pea protein is easy to digest and has a variety of nutrients that offer several health benefits.
Sweet Potato
The second primary carbohydrate source in home made is sweet potato, which is also where the majority of vitamin a is coming from. Similar to oats, sweet potatoes are a low-glycemic carbohydrate that’s rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Most notably, sweet potatoes contain a high amount of antioxidants, such as anthocyanins and beta-carotene, which help defend against free radicals and may reduce the risk of some chronic health conditions.
Fibersol®-2 Soluble (Fiber Glucose Polymer Complex)
Although the whole grain oat flour and sweet potatoes contain some fiber, the majority of the dietary fiber in home made is coming from fibersol®-2. Fibersol®-2 is a low viscosity soluble corn fiber that’s achieved gras (generally regarded as safe) by the food and drug administration (fda).
Fibersol®-2 contains at least 90% dietary fiber and may offer the following health benefits:
- Improved digestive health
- Decreased appetite
- Reduced blood glucose and insulin levels
- Maintains healthy serum triglyceride levels
Digeseb™ (A Proprietary Enzyme Blend)
Digeseb™ is a proven and effective enzyme blend developed by specialty enzyme & probiotics. Digeseb™ is included in home made to significantly improve the digestion and absorption of all the nutrients. Digestive enzymes are essential for digestive health and supplementing with them can reduce the risk of gastrointestinal issues, such as gas, bloating, and heartburn.
Here’s an overview of the substrate that each enzyme helps break down:
- Amylases – breaks down starches (complex carbohydrates)
- Lactase – breaks down lactose (milk sugars)
- Proteases – breaks down protein
- Lipase – breaks down lipids (fats)
- Cellulase – breaks down cellulose (a polysaccharide in plants)
Organic Chicken Broth Powder
Organic chicken broth powder contains various nutrients that promote joint health, including:
- Collagen
- Glycine
- Chondroitin
- Glucosamine
- Glutamine
- Hyaluronic acid
Adding in a small amount of organic chicken broth powder along with the beef protein may further help your body recover and repair after a long day of work or intense training session.
Other benefits of organic chicken broth powder may include:
- Improved gut health
- Reduced appetite
- Lower inflammation
- Enhanced skin, nail, and hair health
- Less joint pain
Medium chain triglycerides (75%)
The primary fat source in home made is medium-chain triglycerides (mcts). Medium-chain triglycerides are naturally found in some foods, such as coconut oil. Medium-chain triglycerides get their name from their chemical structure.
On average, mct’s have 6-12 carbon atoms, whereas long-chain triglycerides have 13-20. Since mcts have a different chemical structure than long-chain triglycerides, they are metabolized faster and more efficiently used for energy.
Due to their unique structure, mcts may:
- Increase energy levels
- Boost metabolism
- Suppress appetite
- Improve cognition
Other ingredients
The following ingredients are used to improve the flavor, mixability, and texture of home made:
- Cocoa powder (only included in double chocolate brownie)
- Natural flavors
- Sodium chloride (salt)
- Sucralose (sweetener)
- Gum blend (gum acacia, guar gum, & xanthan gum)
Keep in mind that the ingredient list above may vary slightly from flavor to flavor.
